Causes of PND

4. Non allergic rhinitis: In this form of rhinitis, symptoms similar to allergic rhinitis appear but there is no allergic reaction.
5. DNS (deviated nasal septum): A condition in which the wall that divides nasal cavity into two halves is displaced to one side. As a result, one side of the nasal cavity becomes small, hindering mucus drainage causing PND.

Pathophysiology
Our nose and throat produce small amounts of mucus continuously. This mucus has three functions. Firstly, it keeps the nasal membrane moist, secondly, it helps trap and filter any inhaled foreign matter (like virus and bacteria) and thirdly it fights infection. This mucus is being swallowed unaware by everyone. But when due to whatever reason the production of mucus increases, it starts to accumulate in the back of the throat. When excessive or thick mucus drips down the throat from the back of the nose, then only one becomes aware of it. The irritants in the mucus can activate receptors in the respiratory tract resulting in protective cough.

Struggling with PND since last 2 months. Thick & sticky coughs are getting drained into throat and creating problem to speak. Immediately after clearing the cough can able to speak. After sometime again same situation arises. Visited ENT, did Endoscopy of Throat. But, nothing was there. Only Larynx were slightly sticky with cough.
After 10-15 days Allopathy treatment it gets improved. But by mistake I took cold drinks and again problem started.
It’s really worsening my daily life.
There is no runny nose. But, previously I had regular problem of Nasal blockage as I have Sinusitis & slightly the nasal septam is deviated. I used Otrivin spray for long time.

I’m Nishtha, 37yr old female – originally from Delhi, just shifted to Bangalore in January. I have recently developed a coughing that gets out of control and even induces vomit like sensation at least once a day. It comes up at any time, causing loss at work (I’m a science communicator, need to talk a lot) and also embarrassment. Any time I get a common cold, the cough doesn’t go away for a long time. I’ve had chronic respiratory & skin allergies since I was a teenager. It was seasonal then became perennial- both pollen and food by the time I was 28yrs. Rhinitis turned into sinusitis and since 2016 I started getting migraines. I’ve learnt to manage them all. But this new coughing is unbearable. Each bout makes me feel weak – highly inconvenient during work days. Must mention – allergies etc run in the family. Mostly mothers side. Asthma, eczema, psoriasis, leucoderma. Fathers side have this post nasal drip condition that I have. Dad had this same coughing pattern. Uncle keeps clearing the nose by snorting like habit constantly. I also dehydrate easily. Though my skin isn’t dry, I can’t go anywhere without water, moisturizer and cough lozenges. Plz help.

Copious amounts of mucus after eating or drinking . tickling throat causes hawking and produces thick saliva ( clear mucus) . progressive. has suffered seasonal allergies .Mold sensitivity. I am 51, female 5’3″, 152 pounds, 15-20 pounds heavier than I could/used to be 5-8 years ago. Alcohol is probably my biggest weight gain culprit but I have that under control now.
I suffer from chronic hoarse voice, clearing my throat and a terrible snoring problem. I have considered treating silent acid reflux as the problem but don’t really feel there is an acid reflux problem. I don’t know if snoring is a result of post nasal drip or if PND is a result of snoring.
I have been reading about the remedies for PND and just don’t feel any of them apply, as none of my mucus comes out, I don’t hawk and my sinuses don’t really bother me and I have no cough or runny nose.
I do have a a worsening sore throat and am currently overcoming a nasty ear infection. I can see a patch of infection on the side of my throat that I am treating with salt water gargle, oral colloidal silver and garlic infused oil in my ear.
I depend on my voice for business and I miss being able to sing and I hate sounding like a smoker of 20+ years. Any suggestions?

cobblestone throat,
tonsil stones, and
ear pain/ inner ear itchiness.
My throat is scratchy, sometimes sore,
I sneeze regularly and
I wake up every morning needing to hawk several times or swallow as i wake up feeling the mucus draining down into my throat.
This has caused a hoarseness in my voice and has greatly effected my singing voice.
Prior to these symptoms i lost my voice about 3 to 4x in the same year…(2017) Thats when i noticed all these symptoms started coming.
I do NOT have a persistant cough, or a regular runny/ stuffy nose.
I would love to know how to stop this aggitation and hopefully recover my singing voice.
This sounds familiar to me. I have similar symptoms but mine is more like chronic laryngitis and it crushes my hooes forever singing, reading aloud or following my ambition to interview people one day.

My daughter had what the doctor considered a sinus infection and cough due to post nasal drip for two months. She took a round of antibiotics and it cleared up. Her cough is now back. She has no secretions from the nose and she said her nose does not feel stuffed, but she coughs especially at night with a slight sore throat. What would you recommend she take?

Dear Dr. Vikas Sharma ji, Iam writing you from Sweden. Myself , Harwant Deo 71 years old, has had this chronic problem of mucous overproduction for the last ca. 30 years. I have been very thoroughly investigated for this in universty teaching hospital of Lund and Malmö. At least 15-20 times they have conducted Gastroscopi, computer supported swallowing test, PH value test, allergi test and even other E.N.T. investigations and what else not. they have always mentioned the problems as follows;
1. slight reflux caused by loosened sphincter muscle of stomach and oesophagus
2. over production of salaiva due to hyperactive salivary glands
3. sensitivity to some kind of allergens but never could point to what kind
4. Have injected even some silicon solution in some throat salivery glands which did not help.
I have to hawk all the time to clean my throat as it is filled with lump of secretion which is;
1. very very thick, white foamy, smells in throat and very hard to push to throw out lest to fall on my own

2. Hoarse and irritated throat with pain sometimes
3. specially at night I have to visit washroom every 2-3 hours which causes utter stress and insufficient

I did not tolerate Beta blockers and statins although my cardiologist tried with many differnet medicines
Fortnately I dont have high blood pressure or very high level of LDL
Please suggest me some homeopathic medicine which can cure my mucous problem or at least reduce it to tolerabel level. I dont smoke, no alcohol and can follow any dietry suggestions alongwith medicine.
