Dry mouth (medically known as xerostomia) is a condition that arises when the salivary glands in the mouth don’t make an adequate amount of saliva to keep the mouth moist. 8. Apis Mellifica – For Painful/Inflamed Tongue
Apis Mellifica is a significant medicine for dry mouth attended with painful/inflamed tongue. The tongue is dry, swollen and inflamed with an inability to swallow. The tongue is fiery red with burning, or shooting pains. Sometimes prickling sensation is felt on the tongue. Dryness may also be felt in throat with burning and stinging sensation. The saliva is viscid and tough. Scalded feeling in mouth attends.
9. Sulphur – For Dryness of Mouth especially in Morning
Sulphur is indicated for dryness of mouth mainly during the morning. A sticky sensation in the mouth is also felt with dryness. Palate is also very dry. Tongue is coated white, yellow or brown and is rough and dry too. Burning pain on tongue is also marked. Mouth dryness after eating is also indicative to use Sulphur. 10. Cocculus Indicus – For marked Dryness at Night
Cocculus Indicus is prepared from seeds of a plant named Indian Cockle of the natural order Menispermaceae. Cocculus Indicus is valuable to treat dryness of mouth present prominently during the night. The throat also feels dry. A burning sensation in the mouth and throat accompanies dryness. I am experiencing dry mouth from last 2 years. I took a homeopathy medicine LanCan and was fine. Suddenly it has started from last 2 months again. At this point my saliva is not developing properly as a result of which am experiencing dry mouth and dry throat which results in a sudden bout of cough that lasts for few minutes. I have a question. I am a 73-year-old woman. Several weeks ago I started developing very dry eyes, mouth, inner lips, throat, and even lungs (or that’s how it seems). It is possible that it is an allergic reaction to a next door neighbor in my condo builing who started smoking very strong cigarettes and his smoke comes into my apartment. The smoke makes me feel horrible overall, and because I can’t get the Condo Board to take any action and I don’t really want to move at this time, it’s all made me somewhat anxious and depressed as well.
I live in Florida, and need air conditioning, particularly at night. But when I breathe in the dry air, everything feels even dryer. So I’m trying to figure out if there is a homeopathic remedy that might help. Someone suggested Ignatia amara, but I took it for almost a week and felt horrible – nauseous, just overall not right. Within a day of stopping taking it the nausea and not-right feeling were gone. So yesterday I started taking Natrum Mur, 1 pellet 3x daily. But I feel just as dry, maybe even more so, and kind of hot all over. Maybe that is just temporary and will balance out, but I’m not sure it’s the right remedy. What homeopathic remedy do you advise?
By the way, there is no bitter taste nor “bad, offensive odour from mouth.”
And eating or drinking water or tea relieve the dryness in the mouth temporarily, but then it returns. And I drink a fair amount of water and herbal tea daily!
